Ulaanbaatar Marathon 2017 to kick off on May 20
The opening ceremony of the Ulaanbaatar Marathon 2017 will be held on May 20 at Sukhbaatar Square.
The working group in charge of organizing the annual Ulaanbaatar Marathon, led by Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Sh.Ankhmaa, met on March 21 to discuss this year’s marathon.
The Mayor’s Office of Ulaanbaatar, the Min- istry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the Tourism Department of Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian National Olympics Committee and the Mongolian Ultra Marathon Federation are jointly organizing this year’s marathon. More than 30 thousand runners are expected to participate in this year’s race.
The purpose of the Ulaanbaatar Marathon is to develop the racing sport in Mongolia, promote Ulaanbaatar to the world, increase the number of amateur athletes in Mongolia, and give opportunities to young people to open their internal resources and opportunities, achieve their goals and build sportsmanship.
The Ulaanbaatar Marathon 2017 will be held in two categories: professional and amateur.
Amateur runners will compete in four age categories (12 to 17, 18 to 35, 36 to 54, and +55) and in two distances, five km and 10 km.
Families and people with disability will run in 1.5 km and professional runners will run a half marathon (21 km) and a full marathon (42 km).
Registration for the Ulaanbaatar Marathon 2017 will end on May 18 at 7:00 p.m.
