Prime Minister visits Govi-Altai and Bayankhongor provinces

-

On Friday, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat arrived in Altai City, the capital of Govi-Altai Province, to meet with the province’s state officials and residents to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects there.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister underlined that the Government of Austria and Asian Development Bank will provide financing of 285 billion MNT for the construction of a 253 kilometer road from Bayankhongor to Govi-Altai and the construction of over 50 kilometers water pipes connecting Taishir and Altai soums of GoviAltai Province. He added that the projects will be complete this year.

Altai City’s residents asked the PM to expand the energy distribution network of the city, help the region's gold miners take part in the government's Gold-2 Program, and to reduce costs for thermal heat and water.

The city’s residents have faced issues in accessing clean drinking water, and the PM's delegation said the Government of Mongolia will collaborate with the Government of Austria to deal with the drinking water challenge facing Altai City.

On Saturday, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat paid a working visit to Bayankhongor Province and met with the province’s residents to listen to their concerns.

Bayankhongor residents asked Prime Minister J.Erdenebat to focus on creating jobs for them. Seniors in attendance critiqued the Cabinet’s decision to raise the retirement age every two years so that the retirement age for men will be 65 by 2027 and the women’s retirement age will be 65 by 2037.

The Prime Minister told them that Cabinet's decision on the retirement age increase was made based on long-term studies, and that the decision is not final and is still pending parliamentary review.
