Conference on defense policy takes place
A conference on national security and defense policy was held on Tuesday at Temujin Urlug Cadet School.
Minister of Defense B.Bat-Erdene, Head of the Security and Foreign Policy Standing Committee MP J.Enkhbayar, MPs B.Batzorig and G.Munkhtsetseg, Head of the Office of the President Ts.Bayarsaikhan, lecturers and researchers from universities and institutes, and officials from the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sciences, and Sports, General Intelligence Agency, and General Staff of the Armed Forces participated in the conference.
The conference’s attendees discussed how to deal with challenges facing national security, and worked together to author recommendations from the conference that will be submitted to state au- thorities.
Researchers attending the conference pointed out that recommendations and conclusions from their studies on defense and national security should be actively applied because the nature of international defense and security has been rapidly changing.
The Head of the Office of the President noted that a number of laws on national security, military affairs, and defense were amended in 2016, and that implementing the amended laws will be of significant importance to providing stronger national security.
He stated that Mongolia is actively focused on international and regional issues, especially Northeast Asian security, but that significant progress has not been seen in the implementation of national defense policy and security in provinces, soums, and bags.
Secretary of the National Security Council Ts.Enkhtuvshin underlined that security issues around the globe have become more complicated in recent years, and Mongolia is facing a lot of challenges, including strengthening governance, enhancing economic security, and creating healthy and safe environments for the Mongolian people.
He added that researchers in charge of national security and defense need to focus on strengthening the nation’s cyber security.
