Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation meets with EBRD and British officials in London
State Secretary of the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs D.Davaasuren met with Frans Weekers, an Executive Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, to discuss developing cooperation between Mongolia and the EBRD.
During their meeting, the sides discussed possible areas for mutual cooperation to diversify the Mongolian economy and to strengthen governance in Mongolia.
The EBRD delegation noted that the EBRD has collaborated with Mongolia to implement 88 projects since 2006, and has issued Mongolia 1.46 million EUR in direct investment and long-term loans to promote private sector growth.
State Secretary D.Davaasuren also met with the British Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Baroness Joyce Anelay.
Baroness Anelay said that she is proud of Mongolia for carrying the torch of democracy in a significant geopolitical zone. In response, D.Davaasuren expressed his satisfaction with Mongolia's successful cooperation with the Community of Democracies, and thanked the United Kingdom for voting in favor of Mongolia's membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2015.
The State Secretary also met with Dan Walpol, head of the Communications Department for the Great Initiative, a gender equality charity based in London, to talk about the organization's activities. In a visit to Mongolia in November 2016, the Great Initiative produced recommendations for Mongolia in addressing gender inequality.
State Secretary D.Davaasuren noted that after learning more about operations of the Great Initiative and reviewing their recommendations, the Government of Mongolia established a unit that has already launched operations to work on gender equality in Mongolia.
