GER AREA REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT HOUSES 60 FAMILIES

- By B.DULGUUN

Ulaanbaatar’s ger area re-planning program commissioned an apartment for 60 households in 7th khoroolol of 9, 10 and 11th khoroos in Sukhbaatar District on April 10.

The keys were transferred to new residents by Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold and E.Anar, the General Architect of Ulaanbaatar and Head of Urban Development and General Planning Department.

“9, 10 and 11th khoroos of Sukhbaatar District are closest to the city center. The air pollution is highest in these areas. Redeveloping ger area and housing the residents is essential for reducing air pollution in Ulaanbaatar. The redevelopment program is progressing smoothly especially in areas handled by responsible companies,” Mayor S.Batbold noted during Monday’s ceremony. He underlined the importance of public participation in the development of ger areas and thanked Premier Financial Investment Group for housing families who previously occupied the land.

Premier Financial Investment Group constructed the new apartment within a year and is planning to start the second phase of the program, which is expected to provide homes for 660 families in twoand-a-half years, according to their president, Kh.Ganbold.

Mayor S.Batbold stated, “We need to take a few measures within the scope of the ger area redevelopment program. The construction of apartments in some areas is delaying due to irresponsibility, poor management and lack of finance of the companies in charge of the area. We have no choice but to reallocate the 24 areas included in the redevelopment program, as discussed during a mayoral council meeting.”

The mayor announced that he would cancel contracts with companies that failed to perform their obligations in the contract and reassured that contracts with companies with high performance will be extended.
