President meets with province media representatives
On Friday, President Ts.Elbegdorj met with journalists from television stations, radio stations, newspapers, and magazines operating in provinces and soums, as well as representatives from the Mongolian Journalists Union, and discussed his role in government.
The President pointed out that the President of Mongolia has a number of powers of office, but they all are carried out by negotiating with other state authorities.
He noted that the president appoints Mongolian ambassadors to foreign countries and receives credentials from foreign ambassadors, but only after Cabinet supports the nomination of an ambassador presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The president presents a prospective ambassador to Parliament, and if the majority of MPs supports the nomination, the president appoints the ambassador.
He said that this procedure is outlined in the Constitution, so he must follow it, and that decisions made by the president must be rooted in the state's basic principles.
President Ts.Elbegdorj emphasized that he has vetoed Parliament's decisions very rarely compared to previous presidents, but that he has lawfully performed all of his presidential responsibilities, excluding declaring a state of emergency, declaring war against another country, and granting asylum to a foreign citizen.
