Left turn ban lifted for Wrestling Palace intersection

-

Drivers can now turn left at the Wrestling Palace intersection, as Ulaanbaatar Mayor amends the recently-approved traffic regulation.

Earlier this week, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold met the working group carrying out the left turn ban to check up on their work. As the working group reported that the left turn ban had been causing inconveniences to drivers and increased traffic at the respective intersection, Mayor S.Batbold decided to exempt the Wrestling Palace intersection from the ban.

Head of Ulaanbaatar Traffic Control Center D.Odbayar and traffic management specialist at the Traffic Police Department N.Khangarid held a press conference on Monday to announce the mayor’s decision.

“Today is the 13th day since drivers were prohibited to make a left turn at seven intersections along Ulaanbaatar’s main road, Peace Avenue. The ban is being carried out under the traffic rule that regulates drivers and pedestrians to follow traffic signs. In other words, we only changed the directional signs through the ban,” D.Odbayar explained.

“Based on proposals from associated organizations, the Ulaanbaatar Mayor permitted left turns from Peace Avenue to Tokyo Street in consideration of the traffic flow of other intersections. This decision will take effect from tomorrow (August 29) so we will change directional signs tonight,” he said.

Officials assured that additional funds will not be required for changing the signs and that traffic movement will be adjusted through traffic lights at the Wrestling Palace intersection.

The left turn ban was adopted on August 15 to enhance road accessibility and tackle traffic in the capital. The ban applies to seven intersections on Peace Avenue, which are the Eastern Central Intersection, Western Central Intersection, and intersections of School No.11, Flower Center, Central Post Office, Bagshiin Deed, and Wrestling Palace.
