D.Otgondalai to fight for silver medal against Sofiane Oumiha
Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medalist boxer, State Honored Athlete D.Otgondalai qualified for the semi-finals of the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Hamburg, Germany after defeating Luis Cabrera of Venezuela 4-1 in the men’s 60 kg.
D.Otgondalai had a bye in the first round, and beat Israeli and Venezuelan boxers in the second and quarterfinal bouts.
He will fight against 2015 European Games and Rio 2016 Olympics silver medalist Sofiane Oumiha of France in the semi-finals for silver medal on September 1 at 12:00 a.m. (Ulaanbaatar time). The two boxers faced for silver medal at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and Sofiane Oumiha came out victorious.
This time, the Mongolian boxer has the chance to beat the French boxer for silver medal.
D.Otgondalai will be Mongolia’s fifth boxer to claimed medals from both the AIBA World Championships and Olympic Games.
Before him, Labor Hero P.Serdamba, E.BadarUugan, U.Munkh-Erdene and N.Tugstsogt won medals at the World Championships and Olympic Games.
Three other Mongolian boxers have been eliminated in the quarterfinals. International Sports Master G.Gan-Erdene was beaten by Colombian Yuberjen Martinez in the light flyweight (49 kg) for bronze medal.
In the light welterweight (64 kg), Armenia’s European champion Hovhannes Bachkov defeated army world champion of Mongolia B.Chinzorig 5-0.
Silver and bronze medalist of the Asian Boxing Championships B.Tuvshinbat competed in the welterweight (69 kg) event, but lost to German boxer Abass Baraou 1-4.
