Farmers receive technical assistance before harvest season
Agricultural equipment and machinery were distributed to farmers on August 31 in Khutul city of Selenge Province to facilitate harvesting.
The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Light Industry P.Sergelen procured these machinery, worth 10 million USD, from Russia on a loan after negotiating with Russian Minister of Agriculture Aleksandr Nikolayevich Tkachov and his deputy, Evgeny Gromyk. Mongolia is to repay the loan within three to five years.
Minister P.Sergelen gave a speech at the handingover ceremony, attended by former Prime Minister Sh.Gungaadorj, Member of Parliament N.Oyundari, Selenge Province Mayor Sh.Orgil and other officials.
“The government approved a resolution to resume the Third Atar Campaign. Within the scope of the campaign, we launched a project to renew equipment and machinery of Mongolian farmers. Exactly a year ago, I met the Russian Agricultural Minister during my state visit to Russia and requested assistance. As a result, we have managed to hand over new equipment, procured for a very cheap price, to farmers before harvest season and I’m very pleased about it.”
Minister P.Sergelen emphasized the importance of the technical reform for the agricultural sector and said that new and highcapacity equipment were essential for preparing hay and harvesting crops.
Through the ministerial agreement, Mongolia imported combines, grass binders, harvesters, grinding and milling machines, tractors, rice sorters, rice cleaning machines, agricultural sprayers, and more.
Former Prime Minister Sh.Gungaadorj noted, “I’m very glad to see the latest editions of agricultural machinery and equipment today. As a person who’s been working in the agricultural sector all my life, I know very well how important a technical reform is. I’m happy to see the new government carry out a technical reform, which hasn’t been performed in recent years. I’d like to use this opportunity to thank the government and Minister P.Sergelen for their contribution to the sector.”
Sh.Gungaadorj said that the new machinery will ensure smoother and easier harvesting in addition to reducing the time and money spent for collecting crops.
