Ulaanbaatar Mayor to support education of disabled children

-

Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold promised to increase support for children living with disabilities and open Kindergarten No.10 for disabled children next year during a meeting with the kindergarten’s head G.Buyanjargal.

“We must have all children living with disabilities attend a kindergarten. As the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, I promise to discuss this matter with members of Parliament and Ulaanbaatar City Council so that funds required for the construction of Kindergarten No.10 will be generated from the 2018 capital city budget or the state budget,” Mayor S.Batbold told G.Buyanjargal.

He assured to take responsibility for the construction of the kindergarten’s new building and pay greater attention to supporting and increasing the quantity of nurseries, institutes and daycare for disabled children.

Kindergarten No.10 was the only institute in Mongolia that provided preschool education to children with disabilities. The kindergarten was demolished in 2013, as the General Agency of Specialized Inspection evaluated that the building was unsafe and too old to be used. At the time, the kindergarten included in the list of 72 kindergartens to be built with a concessional loan from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and officials decided to rebuild it through the city budget. However, the construction slowed down, forcing officials to cancel the project when Mongolia enrolled in the International Monetary Fund’s extended fund facility.

According to G.Buyanjargal, the kindergarten has been operating for the past five years at Unur Bul Center.
