UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES CORNER OPENS
Anew corner displaying certificates of the 13 heritages inscribed in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was launched at the Mongolian Military Song and Dance Academic Ensemble on November 16.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, Center of Cultural Heritage, and Arts Council of Mongolia attended the opening.
Head of the Mongolian Military Song and Dance Academic Ensemble G.Zolzaya noted, “Our ensemble is delighted to become the first arts and cultural organization to receive certificates of all 13 intangible cultural heritages of Mongolia. As happy as we are, we also understand that it’s a very big responsibility for us.”
Head of Arts and Cultural Police Department at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports N.Bold talked about how Mongolia's first rock opera “Chinggis Khaan” became a huge sensation not only in Mongolia but also overseas, and remarked that the opening of the new corner was an important step for promoting and preserving Mongolian intangible cultural heritages. He wished the ensemble luck and fortune in their future activities and stated that the corner will bring them a step closer to becoming a cultural ambassador.
Out of 13 Mongolian heritages included in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, artist of the Mongolian Military Song and Dance Academic Ensemble performs nine of them. In particular, they contribute in the promotion and preservation of Mongol Biyelgee traditional folk dance, coaxing ritual for camels, traditional art of Khuumei, folk long song performance technique of Limbe performances – circular breathing, traditional music of the morin khuur, tuuli (Mongolian epic), traditional music of the Tsuur, anklebone shooting, long song singing, and National Naadam Festival.
The remaining cultural heritages are falconry, Mongolian calligraphy, Mongolian traditional practices of worshipping sacred sites, and traditional craftsmanship of the Mongol ger and its associated customs.
