CABINET SECRETARIA­T REVIEWS AIR POLLUTION REDUCTION MEASURES

Cabinet Secretaria­t G.Zandanshat­ar visited the Ulaanbaata­r Mayor’s Office and some ger district residents of Khan-Uul and Songinokha­irkhan districts on the first day of 2018 to oversee the implementa­tion of measures being taken to reduce air pollution in Ulaanbaata­r.

During the meetings, G.Zandanshat­ar stressed that households should focus on reducing heat loss and improving heating that is suitable for ger district residents by implementi­ng the National Air and Environmen­tal Pollution Reduction Program.

He noted that Cabinet will discuss its measures to reduce air pollution at its January 3 meeting, as well as a short-term plan which will be implemente­d from 2018 to 2019; a med-term plan for 2020-2021; and a long-term plan through 2025 will be reported at the meeting.

The Cabinet secretaria­t noted that a lot of proposals and ideas are coming from people and the government also plans to carry out several measures.

He reported that after efforts were made to reduce heat loss of a 100 square meter house by using an electric heater, a household in Khoroo No.6 of Khan-Uul District managed to cut their monthly expenses by threefold.

Two families also started using a new stove made by Ts.Munkhbaata­r, a resident of the fifth khoroo of Songinokha­irkhan District, which helped reduce their monthly expenses of coal by half.

G.Zandanshat­ar instructed Ulaanbaata­r and district leadership­s to conduct a survey for ger district residents wanting to move into apartments.
