L.Enkhbold: Coal worth around 20 million USD is missing from Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi
Member of Parliament L.Enkhbold held a press conference regarding Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC on April 18.
“I have reliable information that 268,000 tons of coal has gone missing from Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi’s property. An inspector from the General Agency of Specialized Inspection has determined that coal is missing after taking measurements . The missing coal is worth some 20 million USD.”
MP L.Enkhbold requested the Independent Agency Against Corruption to investigate this case on March 26.
“The Independent Agency Against Corruption must identify exactly when this 268,000 tons of coal went missing and which company profited from it. Between 2010 and 2011, 378,000 tons of coal crossed the border without customs statement. Law enforcement organizations haven’t finalized this matter. There’s suspicion that the 268 tons of coal went missing in the same way,” he said.
MP L.Enkhbold added that another 4.2 million tons of coal might have been stolen.
“There’s a group of people who take away public wealth. Even law enforcement organizations have a network going on. Soon, MPs against corruption will conduct an onsite inspection. I will take this matter to the Financial Crimes Unit of the General Police Department,” he stated, “Nobody should steal Mongolia's public property. Legal organizations need to determine the real situation.”
MP L.Enkhbold speculated that state officials, entrepreneurs and law enforcers were involved in the theft of coal.
