70 families receive keys to new apartments

-

Shine Ger Tunshlel LLC housed 70 families by commissioning a new apartment complex in Bayanzurkh District on Thursday.

These families used to live in Dormitories No. 6, 7 and 8 situated in the 16th khoroo in Bayanzurkh District before they were demolished for failing to comply with health and safety standards due to severe deterioration. Now, a new apartment complex for 152 families has been constructed on the land.

The dorms were demolished in April last year through the Happy Town Program, initiated by the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office. During the past 12 months, former residents rented apartments or lived in gers near the area.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold , Head of the Ulaanbaatar Urban Development and General Planning Office E.Amar, and Head of the Ulaanbaatar Housing Corporation B.Sukhbaatar along with residents.

Mayor S.Batbold remarked, “The 70 families who used to live in dormitories that failed to meet standards are now moving into their new homes that meet health and safety standards. Old public buildings failing to meet the standard are being demolished and rebuilt through the Happy Town Program, included in the 2016-2020 Ulaanbaatar Action Plan. These works are not the responsibility of the city administration alone. Reaching an understanding and cooperating with city residents and private companies will improve people’s living conditions.”

Reportedly, there are 234 building that are below health and safety standards in Ulaanbaatar. These buildings are said to house about 21,500 people from 6,321 families. In accordance with 11 directives by the Ulaanbaatar mayor, 138 buildings in six districts have been ordered to be demolished and reconstructed. As of April 18, 18 apartments for 292 families were demolished and four new apartments commissioned for 453 families.

The Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office plans to house 727 families with eight new apartment complexes this year.
