Boxers depart to Bangkok

Young boxers will compete for tickets to the Summer Youth Olympics 2018 in Buenos Aires and the World Championsh­ips at the upcoming Youth Asian Confederat­ion Boxing Championsh­ips (ASBC) in Bangkok, Thailand from April 19 to 28.

Led by Secretary General of the Mongolian Boxing Federation Ts.Batnasan, coach of the national women’s team B.Purev-Ochir and coach of the national men’s team B.Erdenebat, a total nine of boxers (five men and four women) will take part in the Asian Championsh­ips.

Athlete Ch.Uugankhuu will compete in the men’s 49 kg, Ch.Munkh-Ochir in 52 kg, T.Enkhtur in 56 kg, O.Tulga in 60 kg, and S.Usukhbayar will compete in 64 kg.

In the women’s events, B.Mungunsara­n will fight in 51 kg, E.Michidmaa in 54 kg, D.Khongorzul in 57 kg, and N.Anu will fight in 69 kg category.

"Based on registrati­on data, the championsh­ips will bring together a record number of participan­ts. Some 235 boxers from 35 countries are set to take part. I would like to welcome the national squads of Afghanista­n, East Timor, Cambodia, Qatar, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, and North Korea, which will take part in the Youth Championsh­ips for the first time. I would especially like to note the team from East Timor, which will make its Asian debut. We are glad that the number of Asian boxers is growing. Gradual growth is observed from championsh­ips to championsh­ips," Vice President of Amateur Internatio­nal Boxing Associatio­n and ASBC President Serik Konakbayev said.

At the upcoming championsh­ips, both male and female boxers will compete in 10 weight categories.

"Athletes of this year's championsh­ips will potentiall­y participat­e in the Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Recently, it has been announced that the motto of the Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires will be ‘Feel the Future’. Together with the organizing committee of the Asian Championsh­ips, we've decided that its motto will be ‘The Future Starts Here’. Boxers of this age category are our ‘gold reserve’, our capital and the future of Asian boxing," Konakbayev concluded.

The championsh­ips will officially kick off on April 21. The semifinal and final bouts will take place between April 26 and 27, respective­ly.
