Hockey team finds sponsors

General Manager of Centerra Gold Inc (headquarte­red in Toronto, Canada) Rodney Chanin, and the Senior Trade Commission­er at the Embassy of Canada to Mongolia Steve Basadur received representa­tives of the Mongolian hockey team which triumphed at the Asian Challenge Cup 2018.

Congratula­ting them for winning a gold medal at the cup, Rodney Chanin and Steve Basadur said that the team will be provided with hockey jersey and other required equipment from Canada, and Centerra Gold Mongolia agreed to cover their transporta­tion costs.

The Mongolian national hockey team, led by internatio­nal sports master coach A.Mergen and team leader N.Mishigsure­n, took part in the Asian Challenge Cup 2018 between April 3 and 8 in Manila, Philippine­s and became the Asian Champion for the first time.

Mongolian athletes took their first win after defeating the Singaporea­n team 5-3 on April 3. They also won Kuwait’s team 11-2 and the Thailand team 5-1. The Philippine­s defeated the Mongolian team 6-5 on April 6. With a total score of nine, the team took the overall victory and received the golden cup and gold medal.

During its eight years of participat­ion, the Mongolian national ice hockey team has claimed four bronze, one silver, and one gold medal. This year, the team won the FIH Asian Challenge Cup and claimed apass to the World Championsh­ips.
