Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar paid a visit to Russia from May 16 to 17 in the hope to strengthen bilateral relations.
Minister D.Tsogtbaatar held a meeting with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov on May 16 in Moscow to talk about a wide range of issues concerning the relations and cooperation between the two nations, and current regional and global issues.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed future cooperation projects that will be implemented through a mid-term program for promotion of the strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Mongolia that was signed in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar.
They also discussed the key aspects of bilateral interaction at the world’s leading multilateral organizations.
After their meeting, both ministers held a joint press conference about the meeting.
In his remarks at the press conference, Minister D.Tsogtbaatar said, “Both sides have reaffirmed that our neighborly relations rest on a history of many years of fruitful interaction and have a diversified character. We have reaffirmed out mutual desire to further strengthen our strategic partnership.”
He added, “We have reviewed progress in implementing a mid-term program, and noted the positive dynamics of the political dialogue, including at the high and top levels, as well as the good dynamics of interparliamentary, interagency, interparty, cultural and humanitarian exchanges.”
Minister D.Tsogtbaatar highlighted that the two countries hope that it will work at a regular pace because stronger ties between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Mongolia will definitely give a boost to mutual trade, investment projects and expanded inter-regional and cross-border cooperation.
He said, “We also discussed the forthcoming exchanges in the framework of trilateral Russia-Mongolia-China cooperation. We exchanged opinions on current international and regional problems. We have agreed to continue coordinating our actions at multilateral venues, above all the UN, the the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe of which Mongolia has been a full-fledged member since 2012, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and at various Asia-Pacific forums.”
Minister Lavrov said, “On the whole the trilateral projects we are implementing together with our Mongolian and Chinese friends fit in with the integration processes on our big common continent, including under the Great Eurasian Partnership project through liberalization, development of diverse cooperation in the trade and economic sphere among the member countries of the EAEU, SCO and ASEAN. I do not have the slightest doubt that the implementation of these plans in the context of the Great Eurasian Partnership will bring nothing but gains to Mongolia. So, we will welcome its active participation in all these undertakings.”
