Protecting the Nature campaign kicks off
A brand new campaign has been launched to protect Mother Earth and the environment to prevent environmental degradation prior to World Environment Day, observed on June 5.
The new campaign “Protecting Nature” was initiated by the Environmental Crimes Division at the Investigation Office and will be carried out over the next month with support from the Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism, World Wildlife Fund Mongolia Office, Wildlife Conservation Society, Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs, Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, General Police Department, and National Emergency Management Agency.
At Wednesday’s launching, Deputy Minister of Environment, Green Development and Tourism Ts.Batbayar stated, “A one-month campaign is being launched to prevent crimes and violations related to the environment. Through the campaign, the ministry is encouraging our 21 branch office across Mongolia and land administrations to help prevent environmental violations, distribute accurate information to local residents, and work closely with the police.”
He added that the ministry will assign professional management teams to the Environmental Crime Prevention Division of the Bureau of Investigation, encourage people not to engage in irresponsible mining operations through media outlets, take measures to conserve water, tackle illegal trade of trees, and eliminate illegal hunting and picking of rare plants.
Minister of Environment, Green Development and Tourism N.Tserenbat has already started large projects through the “Changing Attitudes” initiative.
“Environmental protection isn’t a responsibility that only state organizations have to bear – each and every individual are also obliged to take care of the environment and nature – and I hope that everyone realizes this and changes their attitude. Make a change starting with yourself!” Ts.Batbayar said.
