The UB Post - - Business & Economics -

Cellular data usage increased 2.5 times over since 2015, reported the Communications Regulatory Commission of Mongolia. The total 3G data usage in 2015 was 10,481 terabytes, while that number increased to 26,354 terabytes as of 2017, representing a 2.5 fold increase.

Monthly data usage of cellular data users in 2015 was 1,098 terabytes. In 2017, the monthly usage increased to 2,544 terabytes. LTE data usage in 2017 totaled 11,533 terabytes. In the first month of 2017, monthly LTE data usage was only 403 terabytes. By the end of 2017, it had risen to 1,679 terabytes per month.

The number of customers of telecommunications companies reached 3.8 million at the end of 2017. This is a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year. The fact that the number of telecommunication customers has surpassed the population of Mongolia means that one person uses more than one phone or phone number.

Of the 3.8 million customers, 2.4 million use smartphones and 2.6 million use cellular data. The number of cell phone users increased 2.3 fold since 2009 and the number of smartphone users increased by 3.5 percent since 2016.
