Hahn Electrical Mongolia opens new complex in Ulaanbaatar

-

Hahn Electrical Mongolia, a company that focuses on providing electrical products and services to the mining and heavy industrial sectors, opened its service complex in Ulaanbaatar on June 22.

The company is a joint venture between Australian Hahn Electrical Contracting Pty Ltd and Mongolian Gobi Infrastructure Partners. Hahn Electrical Contracting is a Western Australian company that provides a full range of specialist electrical products and services to mining and industrial operations.

Hahn Electrical Mongolia was established in 2017 to provide support and service to the electrical sector in the Mongolian and Central Asian mining industries. The Joint Venture partners operate in Mongolia, Australia and other locations around the world, employ over 200 personnel.

The new complex will provide repairs, services, and storage for the mining sector and industrial operations. The company has experience working on underground mines, pump stations, drill rigs and ventilation, with particular experience in 1,000-volt mining systems.

At the opening ceremony of the complex, Australian Ambassador to Mongolia John Langtry, along with the company’s administration and customers were present. Hahn Electrical Contracting has said it invested around 500 million USD for the construction of the new complex.

The main repair product of the new complex will be trailing cables, a cable for carrying electricity from a permanent line or trolley wire to a movable machine mainly used in mining. Most damaged or broken cables are sent abroad to be fixed or replaced altogether. With the opening of the complex, the company hopes to be the first service center in Mongolia to provide repairs.

The company believes that it can reduce the costs of mining companies to buy trailing cables by threefold by repairing the cables instead of the companies buying new cables at 100 to 200 USD per meter.

“It has been a year since we first entered the Mongolian market. We saw the opportunity to increase services and products in the energy sector. The electric cable lines that are used in mining have high costs. All damaged cables are sent abroad to be repaired. We have opened up the opportunity to repair widely used trailing cables in the mining sector. This will conserve a lot of costs for a mining company,” said CEO Craig Hahn.
