13 nations compete at Ulaanbaatar Cup
The Ulaanbaatar Cup2018 international boxing tournament has concluded on June 24. The tournament has lasted a total of four days at the National ASA Circus. The competition was free for the public to watch, with the Mongolian Boxing Federation calling on the general public to come and support athletes.
This year marks the 70th anniversary since the boxing sport was first introduced in Mongolia. It is also the anniversary of many notable Mongolian boxing victories as it is the 30th anniversary of the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games where N.Enkhbat won the first Olympic boxing bronze medal of Mongolia, 10th anniversary of E.BadarUugan’s gold medal from Beijing 2008 and P.Serdamba’s silver medal from the same Olympics.
In honor of the Olympic accomplishments, the A rank Ulaanbaatar Cup international boxing tournament was hosted with 120 participants from 13 countries competing fiercely. Athletes from North Korea, Thailand, Iraq, Iran, Russia, India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, China, Kazakhstan, Taiwan and Mongolia have competed.
Under the privilege of being a host country, Mongolia competed with 40 athletes, divided into four teams. Indian boxers have been exceptional at the Ulaanbaatar Cup, with World Championships silver-medalist Sonia Lather (57 kg) and Mandeep Jangra among the five Indian boxers to reach the final round.
