DP criticizes MPP’s performance throughout spring session
Democratic Party (DP) Caucus Chairman D.Erdenebat reported about the party’s stance on Parliament’s spring session on Monday.
D.Erdenebat stressed that the ruling party in Parliament did not discuss the key topics regarding legal and socio-economic issues such as amendments to the Constitution, and laws on political party, elections, labor, and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the investment banking bill, which were included in the spring session agendas.
The DP caucus chairman noted that the ruling party took too much time debating none relevant issues, but they rejected a bill that aims to stabilize exchange rate fluctuation and increase foreign exchange flows in Mongolia, which was proposed by the president.
D.Erdenebat stated, “Although the nation’s economy is growing, the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) has not made a decision to support people’s lives.”
“DP supports accelerating the Tavan Tolgoi coal megaproject to improve people’s lives and bring the country sustainable economic growth, and negotiated with Cabinet ministers about improving the management and operations of Erdenes Mongol state-owned company, and making some percent of the company public. But the ruling party did not support DP’s proposal for improving Erdenes Mongol’s management, which shows that the ruling party is making an attempt to own the country’s strategic mineral deposits without making their operations clear to the public.”, said the DP caucus chairman.
He noted that DP will demand MPP to fulfill its election promises to implement infrastructure, road and railway projects through money raised through the IPO of Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi.
D.Erdenebat pointed out that during discussions for amendments to the Act of Parliament, the caucus could revoke a part that was in violation of the Constitution.
