Mongolian historical monuments to be digitally preserved

-

The Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) struck a deal with the National Palace Museum of Taiwan on Monday to preserve Mongolian historical monuments in Taiwan in digital format.

The deal was closed with the signing of a memorandum by President of MAS D.Regdel and Director of the museum Lin Jeng-yi on July 2. As part of the agreement, exhibition of literary monuments and artifacts related to Mongolian history, kept at the National Palace Museum of Taiwan, will not only be digitalized but also be featured in a new catalogue.

Many of the literary monuments and artifacts related to Mongolia are associated with the Yuan Dynasty, according to Lin.

“In the future, we plan to organize an exhibition in collaboration with the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum and National Museum of Mongolia. At the exhibition to be displayed in 2019, Mongolian historical monuments being kept at our museum will be featured in digital format. The museum also preserves original portraits of Chinggis Khaan, Khublai Khaan and other khans in addition to historical heritage of the Yuan Dynasty. Publishing them in a catalogue will give Mongolian readers the opportunity to learn the history of their country more in depth,” stated Lin.

Vice-President of MAS G.Chuluunbaatar remarked that MAS scientists compiled the first two volumes of three catalogues while working at the National Palace Museum of Taiwan. The last volume will include the portrait of Chinggis Khaan, paintings of Mongolian khaans and queens, historical monuments and sources, and copies of books and treatises of that time. Both parties believe that the catalogue will become a rare insight to the Mongolian history since the 13th century.

The Institute of History and Archaeology of the MAS is carrying out a series of projects titled “Mongolian Heritages in Foreign Countries”. Through these projects, the institute created catalogues of historic artifacts preserved in European countries, Hungary, Iran and Iraq.
