MPP to focus on resolving internal disputes

- By T.BAYARBAT

Head of the Mongolian People’s Party’s (MPP) review committee D.Batbaatar held a press conference about ethics and responsibilities of the party’s members on July 30 at the party’s headquarters.

At the beginning of his statement, D.Batbaatar underlined that during the 28th congress of MPP, which took place eight months ago, party delegates elected a new party chairman, amended the party’s constitution, agreed to increase the number of party conference members from 310 to 369, established a new ethics committee to improve ethics and responsibilities of the party’s members, and agreed to work together for the party’s reform, but there have still been conflicts between members of the party’s members in Parliament and Ulaanbaatar City Council.

D.Batbaatar pointed out that the key outcome from the congress was to increase the party members’ participation in ensuring accountability and justice in society. He noted that to speed up the implementation of the outcome, the party’s review committee held a workshop for over 250 representatives from the party’s review committees in 21 provinces and Ulaanbaatar's nine districts before Naadam.

The head of the review committee stressed that the majority of the party members participating in the workshop criticized that a lot of people with lack of experience were appointed in crucial government positions with support of the party’s board, but these people broke people’s trust in the party as they violated their ethics and have not served the state well.

The workshop’s attendees mentioned that they were worried about the “60 billion MNT case”, and some MPP members’ offshore bank accounts, and they asked the party’s board to focus on making these issues clear soon.

D.Batbaatar stated that the party’s heads received complaints, proposals and requests from the party’s members who attended the workshop.

He noted that in response to requests from the party members, the review committee will strongly push the party’s board to improve ethics and responsibilities of the party’s members serving in the state.

The head of the review committee underlined that enhancing friendship of the party’s caucus in Parliament and resolving conflicts between MPP’s lawmakers are the main priority of the committee.

He pointed out the committee will demand the party board to enhance ethics of the party’s members for the upcoming board meeting.

Since Ts.Sandui resigned from his chairmanship of Ulaanbaatar’s MPP almost a year ago, the capital’s MPP still doesn’t have a chairman because the board of the capital’s party has not held a meeting due to ongoing disputes among board members, which is why the review committee will pay significant attention to hold a board meeting to elect a new capital city party chairman.

The committee has planned to take some measures to bolster the operations of the party’s units in khoroos and soums.

D.Batbaatar said the committee will insist the party board hold people who are breaking the public’s trust in the party accountable and will closely work with the board to improve the party’s credibility. A regular meeting of the review committee is set to be held on August 2.

He reminded the public that the review committee is receiving complaints about ethical violations of MPP members from the public at the party’s headquarters.

D.Batbaatar added that anyone who witnesses an MPP state servant neglecting their responsibilities, violate their professional ethics and refuse to provide state service to the public or an individual, he or she will be able to submit evidence about them to the committee.
