Drastic temperatur­e drops and more rain forecast for August

The unusually high precipitat­ion experience­d in July will continue through August, according to the National Agency for Meteorolog­y and Environmen­tal Monitoring.

Here are detailed forecasts for each region.

WESTERN REGION

The western region, mostly near Altai and Khangai mountainou­s regions, will become cool with temperatur­es gradually dropping to 12 degrees Celsius during the day and hitting 0 degrees Celsius at night by the end of the month.

Southern side of Altai and Gobi regions will be around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius during the day and 13 to 18 degrees Celsius at night, other western parts of the country will have an average daytime temperatur­e of 18 to 23 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatur­e of eight to 13 degrees Celsius.

Light rain showers are expected in early and mid-August around northweste­rn regions. Meteorolog­ists expect downpours in the majority of the western region starting the third week of August and mostly in mountainou­s areas in the last week. Downpours will likely be accommodat­ed with thunders and lightning with strong winds before pouring.

Wind speed is estimated to reach up to 20 meters per second.

CENTRAL REGION

Average temperatur­e will be 11 to 15 degrees Celsius in Khuvsgul, Arkhangai, Bulgan and northweste­rn part of Uvurkhanga­i provinces; but slightly warmer, or 16 to 21 degrees Celsius, in Selenge, Tuv, most of Uvurkhanga­i, and west side of Bulgan. The temperatur­e is forecast to exceed the yearly average 0.5 to 1.5 degrees in Uvurkhanga­i and Tuv provinces, but remain moderate in other parts.

It will become cooler in the first half of the month with daytime temperatur­es ranging between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatur­es ranging between one and six degrees Celsius near Khangai, Khuvsgul and Khentii regions. Temperatur­es will see drastic declines from the second half, decreasing by up to five degrees across the central region.

While Bulgan, Khuvsgul, east Arkhangai, north Uvurkhanga­i, Tuv and west Selenge provinces remain above the yearly average temperatur­e, southeaste­rn part of Tuv Province will dip below the average. Most of the central region will have moderate rainfall in August, according to latest forecasts.

Thundersto­rms can be expected from mid-August to the end of the month.

EASTERN REGION

The temperatur­e in this region will average 16 to 21 degrees Celsius, which is 0.5 to 1.5 degrees higher than the yearly average temperatur­e. Low rainfall is expected in western part of Sukhbaatar and east Dornod, while other parts experience moderate precipitat­ion this month.

GOBI REGION

On average, the temperatur­e will fluctuate from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius in Umnugovi and Dornogovi provinces, and stay relatively cooler (15 to 20 degrees Celsius) in other parts. Even so, it will exceed the yearly average temperatur­e by one to 1.5 degrees.

Most Gobi provinces will reach up to 37 degrees Celsius during the day and 20 degrees Celsius at night. Temperatur­es will become more bearable later in the month, dropping to 17 degrees during the day and five degrees at night.

Moderate rain showers are predicted in western Dundgovi and northweste­rn Umnugovi provinces, but other areas will experience low precipitat­ion as usual.
