‘One Day of Mongolian Nomads’ event wraps up
For the third year, the event One Day of Mongolian Nomads took place in Mandakh baga of Khan-Khongor soum in Umnugovi Province. The event was jointly organized by local herders, the Association of Mongolian Gobi Herders and Green Gold Project and was supported by the Council of Umnugovi Province in Ulaanbaatar and the Mayor’s Office of Umnugovi Province.
Many competitions were organized as part of the event including argal tuukh contest and others related to the horse culture of Mongolia. The herders had demonstrated livestock related skills such as sheep shearing, milking two goats at the same time, making felt, coaxing rituals for baby camels, milking a camel, catching horse with lasso, catching a foal, horse bucking, engagement and marriage customs, and children’s first hair cutting ceremony.
For excellent demonstration of Mongolian horse customs, the herders group named Dundsaikhan became the winner of the event. Herder Suvd won the argal tuukh competition and set a record by collecting 62 argal in one minute. Sideline events included colt racing, youth wrestling and archery competitions.
Local herders and the Association of Mongolian Gobi Herders expressed their gratitude to local tourist camps such as Juulchin Gobi, Khanbogd, Tuvshin Naram and Place of Nomadic Gobi Herders for supporting the herders’ groups during the event. Coordinator of the Green Gold Project of Umnugovi Province D.Myadagsuren thanked all participants of the event for doing their best despite the extreme weather conditions such as floods and heavy rainfall.
