Lawmakers visit Canada to learn from their forest experience
Delegates from Parliament and government led by Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat, including MPs N.Amarzaya, G.Soltan, and G.Munkhtsetseg, visited Canada to participate in a meeting for forest policy makers, which was held in British Columbia, Canada late last week. The aim of the visit is to learn more about Canadian experience in forest management.
As part of the meeting, the Mongolian delegates learned about the operations of the Canadian Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, and their strategy for climate change, which will be carried out by the ministry from 2015 to 2020. The parties talked about collaboration opportunities in the forest management between the two countries.
As representatives from a national team of UN-REDD+ National Program being implemented in Mongolia under the United Nations Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation are accompanying the delegation, the Mongolian delegates discussed ways to improve the implementation of the UN-REDD+ Program with experienced Canadian officials and experts.
The delegates are responsible for presenting Cabinet with a report on what they have learned about forest management and protections of forests from Canada.
Canadian forestry officials and experts said that Canada focuses on empowering human resource in the forestry and natural science sectors, protecting forest ecosystems, making joint decisions on forest management, and adding value to forest-related products.
They also talked about possibilities for sending Mongolian officials and experts to attend advanced level training in forest and natural resource management in Canada under mutual cooperation to improve Mongolian forest human resources.
