The national training workshop for health teachers launched on Monday at the Institute of Teacher’s Professional Development.

The course will be held through August 17 for 90 teachers specialized in primary and health education at provincial and district departments of education and culture. The workshop also includes training for biology teachers. Around 11,000 issues of curriculum guides for elementary school teachers and 7,000 issues of curriculum guides and textbooks for secondary school teachers are being put on display for teachers to take for free of charge.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports issued a resolution to provide health education at secondary schools. Accordingly, health classes will be taught as an independent subject for students starting fourth grade to 12th grade and their contents focus on personal hygiene, eating, movement, mental health, bad habit, and reproductive health. Health classes will not be taught separately for first to third grade students as it is included in other subjects.

Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Ts.Tsogzolmaa attended the opening of the four-day workshop along with Minister of Health D.Sarangerel.

“Following a new decree by the minister of education, culture, science and sports, a task force was assigned to develop a curriculum for health classes and manage all required preparation work in January,” said J.Myagmar, a senior specialist at the General Education Policy Department of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports. “The minister approved specific contents to be taught through health classes. We’re now training health teachers throughout the country.”

Teachers who took part in the training will become certified health teachers. Schools can request for their health teachers and doctors to receive the training, according to organizers.
