Traffic adjustments made to combat congestion
The Traffic Police Department is has made some traffic changes to minimize traffic congestion in the capital.
Starting Monday, the drivers were prohibited to drive north from the intersection of School No.1 to Flower Center due to a newly placed one-way traffic restriction along this road. In other words, drivers can only make a turn to the intersection of School No.1 from Flower Center.
A lane of oncoming traffic was added to the road on the west side of the Russian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar to improve traffic flow in the area.
The Traffic Police Department is testing if allowing drivers to turn left at the northwestern intersection of the Children’s Palace will reduce traffic. This adjustment is aimed to provide a new route to Peace Bridge, which is usually heavily congested during morning and evening peak hours. Through the new route, people can drive to Olympic Street through the intersection of the Ministry of Foreign Relations before reaching Shangri-La Mall and making a right turn to Genden Street, which will allow them to pass through Khuukhdiin Zuu area to reach Peace Bridge.
According to city authorities, a working group is researching possibilities to move the bus stop of Skytel Center to north of Children’s Palace.
The police reminded drivers that there has been heavy traffic along the route heading east from the western road of Yarmag. An official explained that the traffic was caused due to the construction of the Yarmag twin bridges, which required road closure at Bogd Khaan Mountain and narrowing of the first lane heading to the old Yarmag Bridge.
