Roads and large markets and shopping centers in Ulaanbaatar will close on Car-Free Day, set to take place on Saturday.
Car-Free Day is annually held to encourage people to walk or travel using eco-friendly means such as cycling in order to save the planet.
Roads along the following streets will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
1. Western sub-road from the Eastern Central Intersection to Sansar Tunnel
2. Beijing Street
3. Zaluuchuud Street
4. Seoul Street
5. Road from Geser Church intersection to intersection of
the National History Museum
The Traffic Police Department plans to assign 260 police officers across these areas to ensure public security and order.
On this day, a host of tournaments, contests and activities will be organized under the slogan “Walk and cycle instead of driving” with the objective to raise awareness about the negative impacts caused by cars, reduce the use of cars, and encourage people to walk and stay healthy.
BUS ROUTES CHANGED
Due to the city-wide event, 340 public buses for 40 different routes will travel on temporarily altered roads.

Buses to travel to Sun Road will stop at:

Buses to travel to north to southwill stop at:

Buses passing through the Western Central Intersection will stop at:
» Cultural Palace of the Mongolian Trade Union
» Elba Center » Bumbugur Trade Center » Narnii Titem
Buses passing through the Eastern Central Intersection will stop at:
» Sansar Service Center » National Cancer Center
Public transportation buses will run on their normal route, starting 5:00 p.m.
NO TROLLEY BUS FROM TAVAN SHAR TO OFFICERS’
PALACE
As the main road between the Western Central Intersection and Eastern Central Intersection will be closed on Car-Free Day, trolley buses that run along this road will cease their operations.
In particular, buses T:2 – Tavan Shar-Botanic, T:4 – Botanic-Vokzal and T:5 – 3 and 4th khoroolol-Officers’ Palace will not be in service from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
