State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) D.Davaasuren participated in the seventh Zermatt roundtable on security issues in the North Pacific region, which was held in Montreux, Switzerland from September 17 to 19.
The Switzerland Federal Department for Foreign Affairs and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, an international foundation that promotes the building and maintenance of peace, security and stability, jointly organized the roundtable.
The key aim of the roundtable meeting was to facilitate open and substantive discussions among participants from key countries on the evolving security situation of the Northern Pacific and ways to promote stability in the region.
Some 38 representatives including officials and researchers from North Korea, China, South Korea, Russia, the USA, Japan, Switzerland, Mongolia, and the European Union attended the roundtable meeting to talk about issues regarding regional security in detail.
In his speech, D.Davaasuren stated that thanks to summits between North Korea and the USA, and South and North Koreas, which have led to remarkable progress in the promotion of international peace and security, there have been a lot of opportunities for maintaining regional security and stability.
D.Davaasuren underlined that as Mongolia already announced its stance to promote and ensure regional peace and stability, the MFA held the fifth international conference under the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue Initiative on Northeast Asian Security after the Trump-Kim summit.
He added that Mongolia is ready to organize further dialogues on Northeast Asian security and promote and make contributions to such activities regarding regional security.
During the meeting, delegates discussed strategic trends in Northeast Asia, factors of the regional security, ways and solutions for promoting friendly relations between countries in the Korean Peninsula, further aspects of processes for achieving a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, and ways to achieve stable peace in Northeast Asia.
