J.Baasandamj becomes World Masters champion
The World Masters Powerlifting Championships is taking place in Ulaanbaatar from October 1 to 6 at Holiday Inn hotel. The Mongolian United Powerlifting Federation (MUPF) is organizing the competition under the support of the government of Mongolia and the Physical Culture and Sport Authority.
Some 27 powerlifters are representing Mongolia at the championships where 331 people came to compete from abroad, including coaches and athletes.
There are 23 teams of participants in total and the medalists have already started to emerge. The first medalist was selected on October 3, and senior coach of the Authority of Physical Exercise and Sports J.Baasandamba won four gold medals. He competed in the 70+ age category in the 66 kg weight division, lifting a total of 300 kg. In doing so, at the age of 75, J.Baasandamba became the World Masters powerlifting champion.
There are three types of powerlifting, which are the squat, benchpress and the deadlift based on the three core powers of humans. Within it, powerlifting has the practical and non practical subcategories. In the practical event, athletes wear injury prevention gear.
In the past few years, powerlifting has been developing rapidly in Mongolia. Mongolian athletes won over 20 medals from the World Championships, Youth World Championships, and Asian Championships of Powerlifting.
