Floral tribute held for Mahamta Gandhi

Mongolia celebrated the 150th anniversar­y of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 with a floral tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi Statue on Gandhi Street.

The event was attended by members of Parliament and Cabinet, Buddhist monks, members of diplomatic corps, representa­tives of Internatio­nal organizati­ons, Indian Diaspora and followers of Mahatma Gandhi, including former President of Mongolia N.Enkbayar, Chairperso­n of Mongolian–India Parliament­ary Group B.Undermaa, MP Ts.MunkhOrgil, Dashchoili­ng Monastery’s Khamba Lama Ch.Dambajav, and Pethub Monastery’s Khamba Lama D.Dashdember­el.

Some participan­ts shared their experience­s on the path of Gandhiji and recited Ghandi’s bhajans before monks from the Gandantegc­hinlen Monastery recited mantras for the occasion. In addition to the release of commemorat­ive stamps for the 150th anniversar­y of Mahatma Gandhi, the Embassy of India organized the Satya Vaarta Conference on Mahatma Gandhi in collaborat­ion with the National University of Mongolia and Center for Mongolia-India Study on the same day.

October 2 was declared by the United Nations as the Internatio­nal Day of Nonviolenc­e in homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the Indian Independen­ce movement and pioneer of the philosophy of nonviolenc­e, who was born on this day.
