Joint research on cancer cells launched
The National University of Mongolia (NUM) and National Cancer Center (NCC) agreed to conduct joint research on Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention, after signing a document on October 8.
The two sides stressed the importance of research in creating research database, developing cancer medicines from plants growing in Mongolia, and increasing capacity of human resources.
“NUM has been researching Mongolian plants for more than 10 years. Compared with plants that grow in other countries, plants in Mongolia are more enduring. The cooperation agreement was signed to develop herbal medicine suitable for Mongolian cancer patients by combining these studies with studies on cancer cells. This will contribute to the development of world medicine in the future,” President of NUM Ya.Tumurbaatar stated.
“Thanks to skilled researchers, NUM established its research database in 1940. NCC has accumulated a lot of experience in cancer treatment too. Thus, it is remarkable that we are launching a study on cancer treatment based on our studies and experience. Mongolia has the world’s highest liver cancer rate. Additionally, the studies by Mongolian scientists on liver cancer cells linked to oncogenesis (the formation of a cancer) will play an important role in preventing cancer and revealing cancer causes,” said General Director of NCCJ.Chinburen.
NCC and NUM previously completed a joint research on cancer treatment, according to NUM professor J.Batkhuu. He said, “We started our first study on the cancer cell of NCC patient with antibiotic resistant pathogen. The patient could not be operated on due to his condition of deteriorated immune system and the fact that antibiotics didn’t affect him. The study found that traditional medicinal plants such as rosebay willow herb and scabiosa were effective for treatment. We will continue the study and research more about cancer cells of the Mongolians in the future.”
