Nursing jobs to be increased

- By B.OCHIRJAMAA

The Ministry of Health discussed ways to provide more jobs for nurses on October 13.

The Ministry and Health Development Center has launched “1:2” measure to eliminate the deficiency of nursing jobs. At present, the ratio of nurses to doctors in Mongolia is one nurse to two doctors, which shows that there aren’t enough nurses to assist doctors or take care of patients. The ministry has set a target to improve the availability of nurses to two nurses per doctor in five years’ time through various measures.

Studies indicate that there are more than 10,000 people who have a degree in nursing, but don’t work in line of their profession or their nursing license is expired. The Ministry of Health will conduct a two-week training to help these people work as nurses.

A monthly workshop will be held to provide information and train nurses who are unable to extend their license and those who haven’t practised medicine for a long time because they took a leave from work.

Secretary General at the Ministry of Health R.Oyunkhand said, “We’re intensifying works to open 12 new nursing classes at universities, establish cooperation agreements with affiliated health organizations and train newly graduated nurses.”

Director of Health Development Center D.Gantsetseg stated that the center has undergraduate nursing courses and examinations for becoming medical specialist license. As part of the “1:2” project, we’ve developed a training program to support nurses training to further their medical education in a specific specialty of medicine. The training will be held three days a month for free of charge. All costs will be covered by the state.”
