The surface of intersections at Bagshiin Deed and Flower Center has been marked with yellow grids of diagonal painted lines for better traffic control.
These yellow intersections are being drawn in connection to the revised Law on Road Traffic Safety, which will come into effect on November 1. Yellow intersections will be made at the National History Museum and National Agency Meteorology and the Environmental Monitoring next.
These yellow painted boxes indicate an intersection that has traffic flowing from multiple directions. Cars should never obstruct that center space. In short, drivers shouldn’t drive across to the other side unless there is a clear space for it to slot into.
When there’s no space, drivers have to simply wait behind the box until there’s an opening. This way, drivers will leave the intersection clear for traffic coming from other directions to cross through. This also prevents drivers from getting stuck in the middle when the light turns red.
Head of the Prevention Division at the Traffic Police Department E.Bukhbat said, “The yellow markings will show drivers where to stop and wait when the road is heavily congested and there’s no space on the other side. Even during a green light, drivers should mind the yellow crossing and congestion level and wait for the other side of the road to clear up before crossing over the yellow marking.”
“For starters, yellow markings have been painted at intersections of Bagshiin Deed and Flower Center. We created yellow intersections based on a study which estimates that it’s possible to reduce traffic and enhance road accessibility by up to 35 percent by creating yellow intersections at heavily congested intersections.”
Surveillance cameras have been placed along with yellow intersections to strengthen law enforcement and road safety. Fines will be sent to addresses of any driver who violated traffic rules.
