Anti-corruption campaign launched for education sector
The Independent Agency Against Corruption (IAAC) has kicked off an extensive campaign with a special focus on the eradication of corruption in the education sector.
Head of IAAC’s Prevention and Enlightenment Department T.Bayarkhuu remarked, “State officials at the Ministry of Education approved to enroll 41 children to School No. 1. Despite IAAC’s recommendation to organize transparent enrolment of students from non-affiliation districts, nothing was done to carry out this task. IAAC will continue to inspect student registration and enrolment procedures.”
Next, T.Bayarkhuu reported on the arrest of G.Bum-Erdene, the director of School No. 1. G.Bum-Erdene was arrested two weeks ago after he was caught in the act of accepting a bribe from a parent who wanted to enroll his or her child in the school. The individual who was handing a bribe was also detained.
A week after G.Bum-Erdene’s arrest, IAAC caught another director of a very reputable school in Mongolia accepting a bribe. Specifically, Director of New Era International High School L.Erdene was caught red-handed.
Following these reports, IAAC decided to carry out the campaign with the objective to prevent and stop corruption. During the campaign, inspectors will also determine causes of corruption and progressive actions to eliminate it.
