Snowfall tests winter preparations
It started snowing on the morning of October 25 in Ulaanbaatar. In the provinces, snowfall started at night in large quantities, which made rural roads extremely slippery and dangerous. In response to the poor weather condition, local authorities decided to temporarily close the roads in Bulgan Province’s Nutag Ikh and the road to Erdenet and Darkhan. The roads were reopened on Thursday morning.
As of October 25, many provinces have reported that slippery roads are making driving difficult for locals. The traffic police said vehicle collision reports have increased. The roads from Tolgoit to Vokzal, including roads to District No. 1 and Tavan Shar.
Locals have also reported that buses have been breaking down in the middle of the road, aggravating the increased pressure on the roads.
By 2:00 p.m. Thursday, the Traffic Police received 177 calls regarding traffic accidents. The traffic police warned that drivers need keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them and use winter tires, as these are the most common reasons for accidents and collisions.
