Gun owners called in to register their weapons
The Law on Firearms regarding the census of firearms and its ownership by individuals and legal entities were put into action on November 12. Counting of the firearm will take place until December 12. Within the framework of a twomonth joint action, the Law on Firearms and its procedures will be implemented. It is also aimed at detecting crimes that involve firearms, illegal firearms and ammunitions trading, detection of lost firearms, identification, registration and the clarification of similar weapons.
Police are aiming to work with the public in connection with the national firearm counting. It is also necessary to register firearms and similar items; for example, pellet guns, airsoft guns and guns that are used for sports purposes. The police have clarified that they will not be asking for the origin of the firearm and gun owners will not have legal obligations for not registering beforehand. They want the people to be active and take initiative in registering their firearms and fulfill their legal obligations.
Registration requirements for firearms and similar items are:
Firearm certificate Citizen’s license or a state registration certificate
Additionally, those seeking to register their firearms will need to go to their local police department and bring their firearm with them when registering.
