Customs seize undeclared 248,000 USD
The General Customs Administration announced that it seized an undeclared 248,000 USD and 200,000 RMB in cash at Buyant Ukhaa International Airport. A search of a carry-on baggage of a passenger on a flight from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar on October 12 revealed the large amount of undeclared cash.
An X-ray scan of the baggage revealed large amounts of cash and led to suspicion by border agents. Upon further inspection, customs found that the unnamed Chinese citizen had not declared that he was carrying cash instruments more than the 10,000 USD limit that is allowed to be carried undeclared.
Subsequently, the General Customs Administration has opened an investigation into the matter. The attempt to smuggle money instruments undeclared into Mongolia violates Article 11.29 and Article 22 of the Law on Infringement.
