Con­fer­ence on coun­ter­ing money laun­der­ing takes place

An in­ter­na­tional sci­en­tific con­fer­ence on “Coun­ter­ing Money Laun­der­ing” took place un­der the aus­pices of the prime min­is­ter of Mon­go­lia by the Min­istry of Jus­tice and Home Af­fairs, the Gen­eral Po­lice Depart­ment, and Mon­gol Bank on Oc­to­ber 30. Open­ing the in­ter­na­tional sci­en­tific con­fer­ence, open­ing speeches were given by Prime Min­is­ter U.Khurel­sukh and Min­is­ter of Jus­tice and Home Af­fairs, mem­ber of Par­lia­ment and Chair­man of the Na­tional Coun­cil on Combating Money Laun­der­ing and Ter­ror­ism Fi­nanc­ing Ts.Nyam­dorj.

The con­fer­ence dis­cussed the re­sults of the 30 aca­demic pre­sen­ta­tions of for­eign and do­mes­tic re­ports on the is­sue of money laun­der­ing. The or­ga­niz­ers of the con­fer­ence be­lieve that this is an op­por­tu­nity to com­bat money laun­der­ing in Mon­go­lia and iden­tify ways to deal with it. They also hope to co­or­di­nate in­ter­na­tional co­op­er­a­tion and mu­tual ex­change of ex­pe­ri­ences. At the end of the meeting, the par­tic­i­pants got to sum­ma­rize their com­ments and sug­ges­tions as to what they plan to im­ple­ment.

Present at the meeting were rep­re­sen­ta­tives of over 400 for­eign and do­mes­tic or­ga­ni­za­tions such as the Of­fice of the Pres­i­dent of Mon­go­lia, the Na­tional Se­cu­rity Coun­cil, the Min­istry of Jus­tice and In­ter­nal Af­fairs, Mon­gol Mon­go­lia, and the In­de­pen­dent Agency Against Cor­rup­tion. Also in­cluded were non-gov­ern­men­tal or­ga­ni­za­tions, uni­ver­si­ties, the US FBI, Canada’s Royal Horse Po­lice Depart­ment, such as the Na­tional Po­lice of South Korea, sci­en­tists and re­searchers.
