New app allows consumers to check source of meat
The Veterinary Certification System application is a new app on the Google Play Store that allows consumers to check the source of meat and verify whether the animal was certified by veterinarians as having the necessary vaccinations. The app was released by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry.
Using the app, consumers can scan the barcode of a meat product and receive information about the source of the meat. This includes whether or not the meat was sourced from a region that has high rates of livestock disease, whether the animal was tested for common diseases and defects, and how it was prepared.
A simple scan of the barcode will reveal which soum and province it was sourced from, the veterinary hospital that was responsible for the animal, and where and when it was butchered. The database includes information about the standards of health safety that soums and provinces upholds, helping the consumer make a more informed decision on buying meat.
An expo on “Health and Safety Guaranteed Meat” will be held at Lavai Trade center from November 2 to 4. The expo will feature meat suppliers who have had their meat certified as healthy, not sourced from a disease vulnerable region, and having fulfilled all health code and requirements.
Meanwhile, the app is only available for the Google Play Store and there is no information when or if it will be available for the iOS App Store.
