S.Odontuya re-elected as chair of Democratic Women’s Association
The Democratic Women’s Association of Mongolia operating under the Democratic Party (DP) held elections for the chairwomen of the association and its capital branch on Saturday.
As part of its reform, which started in late 2016, DP has been holding elections for all associations, committees, boards, and councils of the party in all levels across the country, including women’s associations.
Current chairwoman of the association S.Odontuya and members of DP Ts.Tserendolgor and T.Purevkhatan ran in the association’s chairmanship election.
The three candidates in the election traveled across the country during the campaign throughout last month to listen to the opinions of DP women members.
The party’s 30,000 women members joined the meetings for the campaign, and talks between women and the three candidates covered challenges regarding poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, environmental degradation, and female reproductive health.
Mayor of Bayangol District S.Odontuya won the election with 5,382 points from DP women members across Mongolia, and a chairmanship election of the association’s Ulaanbaatar branch took place in polling stations in Ulaanbaatar’s nine districts alongside the association’s chairmanship election.
After winning the election, S.Odontuya stressed that she will put forward proposals from women who participated in meetings during the campaign to the DP National Policy Committee to include them in the party’s action plan.
Members of the capital city council Yo.Tsatsraltuya and Ts.Odontungalag, and member of the National Policy Committee B.Punsalmaa ran in the association’s capital branch’s chairmanship election.
As B.Punsalmaa, who is the CEO of M Oil petroleum company, won the election, making her the chair of the capital’s Democratic Women’s Association.
On Saturday, elections for the chairwomen of the association’s 14 provinces and eight districts’ branches took place and the following people were elected as chairwomen.
