G.Zandanshatar attends regional meeting on open governance
Cabinet Secretary G.Zandanshatar participated in the 2018 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia-Pacific regional meeting, held in Seoul, South Korea from November 5 to 6.
OGP is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from national and sub national governments to promote open government, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.
The government of South Korea in collaboration with South Korean civil society hosted the meeting.
Over 500 delegates including high-ranking representatives from governments of the Asia-Pacific region gathered at the meeting to discuss ways to raise collective ambition and generate new political support for promoting participatory democracy, improving governance for a better life for all, and renewing public trust through government innovation.
Cabinet Secretary G.Zandanshatar attended the ministerial roundtable titled, “Building a people powered open government movement”.
As part of the meeting, G.Zandanshatar held a meeting with CEO of OGP Sanjay Pradhan to discuss ways to strengthen open governance and regional cooperation.
During their meeting, G.Zandanshatar introduced the OGP delegation to Mongolia’s policy, objectives, measures and national action plan for strengthening open governance.
Pradhan noted that Mongolia is actively participating in the ongoing activities conducted by OCP, and is playing the leadership role in efforts for strengthening open governance not only at the regional level but also at international level.
The meeting’s organizers said, “We hope to see the regional meeting further collective knowledge and action on important issues raised at the OGP Global Summit in Tbilisi relevant to the meeting’s themes. This could include, but is not limited to, protecting and expanding civic space, testing new methods for promoting participation, improving the quality and access of public services especially for the traditionally left-out/ disadvantaged groups, mainstreaming inclusion and gender, co-designing and co-delivering public policies with citizens, addressing elite capture, ensuring that open government principles remain front and center in the digital government agenda, and building sustainable cities and local governments that are resilient and fit-for-purpose for present and future challenges.”
