Police partners with taxis for anti-theft action

-

Taxi drivers will be actively reporting suspected crimes, especially theft, in accordance with a new cooperation agreement between the Ulaanbaatar Police Department and Ulaanbaatar City Taxi Company.

Representatives signed the agreement on November 7 and said they expect higher prevention of crimes with taxi drivers now on the lookout.

Out of all reported crimes in Ulaanbaatar in the first nine months of this year, around 8,800 crimes were committed on streets, public areas and secluded areas, according to the police. The police stated that taxi drivers spotted and reported considerable number of crimes that took place at parking lots and street. To encourage taxi drivers to stay committed to reporting potential crimes and help prevent serious crimes, the police has decided to hand out rewards as part of the new partnership.

The Ulaanbaatar Police Department mentioned that most recently, an employee from Ulaanbaatar City Taxi Company helped the police arrest a man who had been stealing vehicles.
