National Amateur Chess Championships kicks off
Under the auspices of Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold, the National Amateur Chess Championships started on November 10. The championships is taking place at the same time in the nine districts of Ulaanbaatar, 21 provinces and 330 soums. The Baganuur District Championships was attended by the Parliament Secretariat and representation from the Mongolian Chess Association, with 36 men and 22 women are competing in the district.
This is the seventh year that the competition is being organized and the fist winner was from Baganuur District.
Baganuur wishes to increase their success and was highlighting the participation of new young players. The first stage of the championships is taking place in soums and districts. The second stage consisting of the Ulaanbaatar and province championships are to take place from December 8 to 9. The National Championships final will take place in January 5 to 6, 2019.
Last year, a total of 6,830 chess players took part in the event. According to the Parliamentary Press and Public Relations Department, about 2,100 new participants over the age of 18 have started participating in the competition within the last two years.
