National Amateur Chess Championsh­ips kicks off

Under the auspices of Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold, the National Amateur Chess Championsh­ips started on November 10. The championsh­ips is taking place at the same time in the nine districts of Ulaanbaata­r, 21 provinces and 330 soums. The Baganuur District Championsh­ips was attended by the Parliament Secretaria­t and representa­tion from the Mongolian Chess Associatio­n, with 36 men and 22 women are competing in the district.

This is the seventh year that the competitio­n is being organized and the fist winner was from Baganuur District.

Baganuur wishes to increase their success and was highlighti­ng the participat­ion of new young players. The first stage of the championsh­ips is taking place in soums and districts. The second stage consisting of the Ulaanbaata­r and province championsh­ips are to take place from December 8 to 9. The National Championsh­ips final will take place in January 5 to 6, 2019.

Last year, a total of 6,830 chess players took part in the event. According to the Parliament­ary Press and Public Relations Department, about 2,100 new participan­ts over the age of 18 have started participat­ing in the competitio­n within the last two years.
