- By B.DULGUUN

Azat LLC put into operation a halal meat processing plant in Ulgii city of Bayan-Ulgii Province on November 27.

The plant is capable of slaughtering up to 200 large livestock and 800 small livestock (sheep and goats) a day in addition to producing 15 tons of filleted meat, five tons of cooked meat and five tons of by-product.

The plant has opened stanle jobs for at least 60 people.

According to CEO of Azat Kh.Berdmurat, the company has recently started exporting processed meat to Vietnam and plans to propose a trade agreement with China and Russia.

Azat LLC has been supplying green tea and animal feed to China since 2017, planting them in Sagsai soum.

Halal meat export is a great way for Mongolia to increase revenue by taking advantage of its abundant cattle and the growing global demand for halal meat. Mongolia has more than 60 million livestock, out of which around 30 million are sheep and 27 million are goats. Local meat producers managed to increase sheep and goat meat shipments to 2,601 tons last year, which was 11 times higher than in 2016.

Last year’s livestock shipment amounted to around eight million USD, but industry officials are confident that the volume will continue to rise and figures show it’s more than likely. In the first half of 2018, exports quadrupled to 775.6 tons. Now that a new halal meat processing factory has opened, Mongolia is more than capable of further increasing its meat export, say experts.
