Deputy Minister B.Battsetseg discusses economic and agricultural cooperation with Italian officials

The regular political consultative meeting of the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation took place on November 27 in Rome, Italy, to discuss a wide range of issues regarding the cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting’s delegations were led by Mongolian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg and Undersecretary of State for Italy’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Manlio Di Stefano.

During the meeting, both sides noted that as the two countries started focusing on developing their relations and cooperation, the regular consultative meeting has been restarted, and in the future, the meeting will be of significant importance to enhancing mutual understanding.

At a meeting between Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold and Member of the Italian Senate Antonio Razzi held two years ago, the speaker expressed Mongolia’s interest in resuming the consultative meeting of the two countries in order to promote the implementation of agreements that have been reached.

At the November 27 meeting, the sides talked about the current state of the two countries’ relations in detail, and also discussed opportunities for enhancing economic cooperation, and ways to develop cooperation in the areas of livestock product processing, food and light industry, and renewable energy.

Deputy Minister B.Battsetseg noted that the importance of the two countries’ active and close cooperation in support of setting up cooperation mechanisms will help produce value-added products by taking advantage of Italian innovative agricultural technology and Mongolian livestock products.

The sides also discussed collaboration opportunities for implementing some projects and programs.

In addition, the deputy minister talked with the Italian officials about cooperation opportunities for carrying out a project to open a leather processing factory in Darkhan-Uul Province.

Mongolia is interested in developing its cooperation with Italy to enhance bilateral economic collaboration, especially to promote mutual cooperation in the light industry, the tanning industry, and infrastructure.

The government believes that there are a wide range of possibilities for Mongolia to export its agricultural products produced with Italian technology to some Asian and European countries.

Ambassador of Mongolia to Italy Ts.Jambaldorj and officials of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation participated in the consultative meeting.
