The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports issued order A/747 to change the extended break periods of general education schools of the second, third and fourth semester. This has been done in accordance with Parliament’s decree regarding “Combatting air pollution” passed on January 5, which stated that the issue regarding the break period of preschool, school and university students ware to be decided at the end of the year.

The winter break period has been changed from December 15 to February 15. This change has to do with the alignment of the New Year’s and Lunar New Year’s celebrations. Additionally, this is the time when air pollution is the most harmful. The change in schedule varies depending on the age range of students and the summer breaks of students have also been slightly altered. With the increase in the length of the winter break, summer breaks will be starting mid-June for high schoolers and on June 8 for third to fifth graders, reported the Ministry o Education, Culture, Science and Sports.
