Mayor of Ulaanbaatar to be elected today

The Ulaanbaatar city council will hold a meeting today to elect a new mayor of Ulaanbaatar.

After former Mayor S.Batbold announced his resignation, Chairman of Ulaanbaatar City Council S.Amarsaikhan, General Consulate of Mongolia in Irkutsk L.Amarsanaa and former head of Erdenes Oyu Tolgoi LLC B.Munkhbaatar are rumored as the most likely candidates.

B.Munkhbaatar announced on December 26 that he will withdraw himself from the Ulaanbaatar mayoral race.

The Mongolian People’s Party’s (MPP) caucus in the city council is expected to announce the candidates today.

The capital city council’s members of MPP believe that a council member should become the next mayor.
